Brigham
Henry Roberts (1857-1933) was a leading LDS author, scholar, and apologist in
the late 19th/early 20th century. I will admit that I am
a fan of many of his works, such as the volume, The Truth, The Way, the Life: An
Elementary Treatise on Theology, published posthumously, which is a
classic, and only recently has been superseded by the Exploring Mormon
Thought volumes by Blake Ostler.
Roberts’
classical work, The Mormon Doctrine of Deity is available online here.
While it is dated in some areas, it is a good discussion and defence of
Latter-day Saint theology, and all those interested in “Mormonism” should read
this book (and other works by Roberts).
I also came
across two presentations by Blake Ostler and Jim Faulconer on Roberts’
theodicy (explanation for the problem of evil) and doctrine of pre-mortal life and intelligences,
which are very well-informed discussions, so enjoy!
