Rick Brannan and Israel Loken on Isaiah 9:3

Isaiah 9:3

לֹא הִגְדַּ֣לְתָּ הַשִּׂמְחָ֑ה

You have made the nation numerous; you have not made the joy great. They rejoice in your presence as with joy at the harvest, as they rejoice when they divide plunder.

The Tg. has “you have made their joy great” rather than “you have not made the joy great.” This reading requires an emendation of the Hebrew text; however, it forms a much better parallel with the first line and makes more sense in the context.
