The Use of Psalm 45 (cf. Hebrews 1:8-9) and 82 to Support the Plurality of Gods Doctrine in November 1897

The following is taken from:

George A. Poulter and Howard Bushnell, "Mormon Elders," The Fresno Morning Republican, November 16, 1897, 6:

Objections are made to the teaching that there are more Gods than one. Again we are on defensive with Truth at our back. Hear the words of the Psalmist, proving that there are at least two Gods: "Thou lovest righteousness and hatest wickedness, therefore God, thy God, hath anointed Thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows"--Ps. 45, 7. "When He shall appear we shall be like Him"—I John iii. Will He not be a God? John the Revelator furnishes evidence in Rev. 14c., that when Jesus comes there will be 144,000 Gods; (7c.) 1200 to be chosen from each of the twelve tribes of Israel. Read again in the 82d Psalm: "God standeth in the congregation of the mighty; He judgeth among the Gods." In this passage the number of Gods among whom God judgeth is indefinite, and the words "congregation of the mighty" implies that they might be quite numerous.
