George Reynolds and Janne M. Sjodahl vs. glorifying in oneself, "man worship," and false humility in Mosiah 23:11

VERSE 11. I am unworthy to glory of myself. The humility of Alma is shown in this one sentence. He knew the Lord was with him yet he gloried not in himself. He testified to his people that he was “unworthy” of the Lords’ confidence in making him to proclaim His Salvation. They themselves, he implied, should glory in the blessings of the Lord, for He had armed them “with righteousness and with the power of God in great glory.” (1 Nephi 14:14) Alma took no credit not himself for the “plentiful harvest” that the Lord had garnered, but in thanksgiving to the Great Giver of all good, he praised his Maker, and offered homage to His holy name. (George Reynolds and Janne M. Sjodahl, Commentary on the Book of Mormon, 7 vols. [Salt Lake City: Deseret Book Company, 1976], 2: 244)
