Erastus Snow Affirming Baptism being the instrument for the remission of sins

  

[Erastus Snow] spoke on the principles of the United Order, using the text “if we are not one, ye are not mine.” He incidentally stated that the door of baptism had been opened for the remission of sins, for the renewal of covenants and for the observance of the Rules of the Holy United Order, by President Brigham Young. President Erastus Snow addressed the Saints in St George Tabernacle. 9 persons were baptized by Brother Snow to-day.

 

The wording of the ceremony of baptism into the United Order, as used in the baptisms administered by Apostle Erastus Snow was as follow:--_ _ _ _ _ _ _ <(Name)> “having authority given me of Jesus Christ, I baptize you for the remission of your sins, the renewal of your covenants, and for the observance of the rules of the Holy United Order, in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost, amen.” (Ibid., September 5, 1875, 405)
