Thomas J. Nettles on the Importance of John Calvin's Writings for Modern Calvinists

John Calvin was a master of exegesis, theology, evangelical encouragement, and polemics. Allowing his words to enter and influence the discussion always enriches any issue with depth and the need seriously to engage his ideas. Often we find that what he has said states the truth more clearly and boldly and with greater overall coherence than any voice that has preceded him. (Thomas J. Nettles, “John Calvin’s Understanding of the Death of Christ,” in Whomever He Wills: A Surprising Display of Sovereign Mercy, ed. Matthew Barrett and Thomas J. Nettles [Cape Carol, Fla.: Founders Press, 2012], 294)
