Notes on 1 Nephi 20:6 (= Isaiah 48:6)

1 Nephi 20:6

Isaiah 48:6

Thou hast seen and heard all this; and will ye not declare them? And that I have showed thee new things from this time, even hidden things, and thou didst not know them.

Thou hast heard, see all this; and will not ye declare it? I have shewed thee new things from this time, even hidden things, and thou didst not know them.

KJ Isa 48:6 “heard, see”; MT shm’th chazh klh “you have heard, see all of it” (often emended with chazut to read “you have heard the whole vision”) || Acts 22, 15, “thou hast seen and heard”; cf Rev 1:19. (Book of Mormon Critical Text: A Tool for Scholarly Reference, 3 vols. [Provo, Utah: Foundation for Ancient Research and Mormon Studies, 1987], 1:120 n. 1027)

LXX ‘alla kai, which have been used separately in the KJV NT to mean “and” & “that”, but have not been so used together; cf Ex 32:10, “them, and that I”; Nm 22:6, “then, and that I” (Ibid., 120 n. 1029)

On this, the LXX of Isa 48:6 reads (emphasis added):

ἠκούσατε πάντα καὶ ὑμεῖς οὐκ ἔγνωτε ἀλλὰ καὶ ἀκουστά σοι ἐποίησα τὰ καινὰ ἀπὸ τοῦ νῦν ἃ μέλλει γίνεσθαι καὶ οὐκ εἶπας
