William Taylor (RC Priest), "God-talk, the language of Catholic faith"

God-talk, the language of Catholic faith

Catholics understand that the words we use to describe this experience are poetry and metaphor. This effects even the simplest words we use. We call God “Father.” We speak about “the Son.” We say “Holy Spirit.” Unlike Mormons, we don’t take these words literally. The same is true when we use the word “he” to refer to God. We are like painters trying to capture a sunrise. (William Taylor, Mormon Missionaries Knocking at My Door: A Catholic Survival Kit [2022], 29)
