James D. G. Dunn on Parallels Between Romans 3:27-4:25 and James 2:18-24

 . . . the fact that James 2:18-24 poses a point-by-point counterargument to that of 3:27-4:25, calling on the more typically Jewish understanding of Gen 15:6 (but with "works" now understood as good works), suggests Paul was drawing a line of argument in 3:21-4:25 which he had used elsewhere:
