“Better sacrifices than these.” Since the heavens are also Christ’s
dwelling—for as much greater as the heavens are than the earthly things, so
much greater and better are the good things that belong to us—there was need of
a greater sacrifice, of the blood of the Son of God, which has accomplished our
purification in a more perfect way. Therefore, the death of Christ was brought
about not only to confirm the covenant, but also to remove the defilements of
the true worshippers, that is, of the soul. For this reason, the remembrance of
His death is made through the mysteries, which have been granted to many
