New Testament Manuscript, Folio
4, p. 105:
and he confessed and denyed not
but confe =ssed that I am not the
christ and the<y> asked <him> what then
art thou Elias and he saith I am not
art thou that prophet and he
answered no
There is a pinned note, in the
handwriting of Sidney Rigdon, on lines 2-12:
And
he confessed, and denyed not that he
was Elias; but confessed, saying; I am not the christ. And they asked
him, saying; How then art thou Elias? And he saith<d>;
I am not that Elias who was to restore all things. And
the<y> asked him, saying; Art thou that Prophet?
And he answered; [no]<No>,
The addition of the demonstrative pronoun, "that," indicates that "Elias" is being understood by Joseph and Sidney as a title, not simply the Greek for Old Testament Elijah.
