In Dan
2:19-20, we read of God being the
recipient of a blessing:
The mystery was revealed to Daniel in a night
vision; then Daniel blessed (ברך) the God of Heaven. Daniel spoke
up and said: "Let the name of God be blessed (ברך) forever and ever, For wisdom and power are His." (JPS
Tanakh)
While this
might sound odd, it was perfectly understandable and acceptable for God Himself
to be blessed in antiquity. Indeed, this is a practice that permeates the Old
