=40th Also Celestial bodies, and bodies Terrestrial,
and bodies Telestial; but the glory of the Celestial, one[,]<;>
and [o]<t>he Terrestrial, another[,]<;> and the
Telestial, another.
NT MS 2, pp. 129-30:
The word telestial is, as far
as we know, a coined word by Joseph Smith. Joseph received the vision of the
glories (See Doctrine and Covenants 76); while translating the Gospel of
John, so when he came to the Corinthians he inserted the third glory into the
above passage as his vision taught him. It seems, however, that Joseph was translating
Corinthians in January 1832 but he did not receive the vision of the glories
until February 16, 1832. (Arch S. Reynolds, A Study of Joseph Smith’s Bible
Revisions: Its Relation to Other Versions and a History of Its Coming Forth [Springville,
Utah: Arch S. Reynolds, 1957], 138)
