The following are instances that reflect God’s “doing good” as a matter of “righteousness” (צְדָקָה) in the Hebrew Bible:
They that are
delivered from the noise of archers in the place of drawing water, there shall
they rehearse the righteous acts (צְדָקָה; δικαιοσύνη) of the Lord, even the
righteous acts toward the inhabitants of his villages in Israel then shall the
people of the Lord go down to the gates. (Judg 5:11)
He shall receive the
blessing from the Lord, and righteousness (צְדָקָה) from the God of his
salvation. (Psa 24:5)
Touching the
Almighty, we cannot find him out: he is excellent in power, and in judgment (מִשְׁפָּט;
κρινω), and in plenty of justice (צְדָקָה; δικαιος): he will not afflict. (Job
37:23)
I will greatly
rejoice in the Lord, my soul shall be joyful in my God, for he hath clothed me
with the garments of salvation, he hath covered me with the robe of
righteousness (צְדָקָה; LXX uses σωτηριος 'bringing salvation'), as a
bridegroom decketh himself with ornaments, and as a bride adorneth herself with
her jewels. (Isa 61:10)
Who is this that
cometh from Edom, with dyed garments from Bozrah? this that is glorious in his
apparel; travelling in the greatness of his strength? I that speak in
righteousness (צְדָקָה; δικαιοσύνη), mighty to save. (Isa 63:1)
