Even at the height of his explications of an Adam-God theology, Brigham Young taught we would never become "independent deities" (notwithstanding the caricature of his and Latter-day Saint theologies):
Adam is my father; (this I will explain to you at some future time; ) but it does not prove that he is not my father, if I become a God; it does not prove that I have not a father. (JOD 6:275 | August 28, 1852)
