J. Webb Mealy on Hebrews 1:1-2

 

HEBREWS 1:1-2

 

1Long ago, God spoke to our ancestors many times, and in many ways, through the prophets. 2In these “last days,” God has spoken to us through a Son. God has appointed the Son to inherit everything, and through him, God created the universe.

 

In the OT prophets, the expression “the last days” most often refers to the time of the transition to God’s hoped-for intervention to renew the creation and put an end to injustice. Here it refers to the last phase for the current age, which was inaugurated with the appearance of Jesus Christ. (J. Heb 1:1-2 is often abused to support Sola Scriptura, or at least, a cessation of public revelation (an important "building block" for the doctrine). For more, see:
