In his essay, “The Sexuality of God in the Hebrew Bible,” notwithstanding claiming God “transcends Gender,” Mark. S. Smith teaches that the Biblical authors envision God as having a "human-like" form:
There
are also passages referring to God in a manner that transcends gender. Genesis
1:27 represents the human person, both male and female, as the image of God,
suggesting that God is neither male nor female. Ezekiel 1:26 envisions God’s
body in human terms, “something that seemed like a human form.” In this case,
too, God is beyond the category of human gender. (Mark S. Smith, “The Sexuality
of God in the Hebrew Bible,” in Biblical Essays in Honor of Daniel J.
