Binitarians Assume Monotheism Allowed for the Existence of Other Beings
We claim that the single-hearted monotheism of the Israelites did not preclude the existence of other supernatural beings but restricted their devotion to one God. The claim is based mainly on the assertions of passages such as Deuteronomy 32:17, which addresses the reality of demons and demonically based idols and instructs the Israelites to avoid diligently. The Jewish people were also aware of angelic agents of the LORD (e.g., Exodus 14:19, Numbers 20:16, Deuteronomy 32:8).
In addition, they were also directly told that there were secret realities of God. He had other mysteries He kept hidden from them–the secret things that belonged to Him alone (Deuteronomy 29:29). The prophets would reveal new mysteries from God but never a revelation allowing the worship of new unknown gods (Deuteronomy 18:15-20). Their essential monotheism explicitly restricted their ultimate devotion to their one fully divine head, the LORD. (Mario Shepard, Why I Became a Biblical Binitarian [2021], 68)
