Ron Rhodes on 1 Thessalonians 2:13

In his 1995 book, co-authored with Marian Bodine, Reasoning from the Scriptures with the Mormons, we have the following self-own by Rhodes who argues that oral tradition is the Word of God (in context, he is engaging in what I call the "Word of God = the Bible" fallacy):

1 Thessalonians 2:13. Paul says, “For this cause also thank we God without ceasing, because, when ye received the word of God which ye heard of us, ye received it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which effectually worketh in you that believe.”

Again, the reason that Paul’s words were authoritative is that they were rooted in God, not in man. God used Paul as His instrument to communicate His word to man. (Ron Rhodes and Marian Bodine, Reasoning from the Scriptures with the Mormons [Eugene, Oreg.: Harvest House Publishers, 1995], 155)
