Peter follows the Greek text of Isa
40:6-8 quite closely with one noteworthy modification. By writing the word
of the Lord remains forever, instead of “the word of our God,” Peter
adapts this text to the preaching of the Lord Jesus in the gospel. Strikingly,
he concludes by saying that this word announced by Isaiah is the word that
has been proclaimed to you (using the verb euangelizō, “proclaim
good news”). The abiding word that Isaiah foretells is nothing less than the gospel
of Jesus Christ. (Daniel Keating, First and Second Peter, Jude [Catholic
Commentary on Sacred Scripture; Grand Rapids, Mich.: Baker Academic, 2019], 48-49)
