The late Vernal Holley wrote a book defending the Spalding thesis of Book of Mormon origins (3rd edition online here). One of his more novel "criticisms" focus on his thesis that some Book of Mormon placenames and their geographical relationship to one another was based on the geography around Joseph Smith's home.
