on John 19:30 and τετελεσται, Robert Gundry wrote:
By itself the final outcry of Jesus is
ambiguous. But it should be translated “They
are finished!” rather than “It is
finished!” because it echoes the statement in 19:28 that Jesus knew “all were now finished.” Again the
reference is to all his signs, works, and words—done and said to take away the
