Robert Sungenis (author of Not By Faith Alone: The Biblical Evidence for the Catholic Doctrine of Justification) and Kelly Powers had a debate last night on the topic of salvation:
DEBATE: Does the Bible Teach Salvation by Faith Alone? | Dr. Robert Sungenis vs. Kelly Powers
Kelly, as expected, embarrassed himself. For example, around the 30:10 mark, he said that "through Jesus Christ, we have now been made righteous." For those who know about the Protestant understanding of imputation and forensic justification, you will understand why this represents Kelly shooting himself in the foot. He also thought Sungenis' Not By Faith Alone was a book-length study on James 2:24 merely based on the title of the book(!) "Tell me you did not read the book without saying you have not read the book."
I have written a lot on the topic of salvation, such as my book, "Born of the Water and of the Spirit": The Biblical Evidence for Baptismal Regeneration (for those who want a free PDF copy, email me at ScripturalMormonismATgmailDOTcom) and lengthy posts, such as:
