"We should study to know the will
of our Father and then delight in doing it at any cost. We cannot expect to do
so without effort. The Gospel seems dearer to me than ever, as I make greater
effort to live the Gospel laws and make sacrifices for the Gospel's sake.
"I, being a son of God, have a
right to aim to become like Him. That means, perfection. We are to perfect the
attributes of Deity in us implanted. Jesus commands it. 'Be ye perfect even as
your Father in Heaven is perfect.' Jesus sets the example and, by object
lessons, showed us the way. The knowledge obtained here is good for this life
and for the life to come." (George F. Richards, Journal 1, 1908, in The
Life of George F. Richards: President of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles
Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints [Provo, Utah: J. Grant
Stevenson, 1965], 51)
