In his translation of Damascus Document III:1-4, Philip R. Davies renders the passage thusly:
1 Because of it the children
of Noah went astrayas did their families; through it they were cut off.
2 Noah did not follow it, and
he was accoun[ted a Fri]end (of God) because he kept the commandments of God
and did not choose
3 what he himself wanted. And
he passed on (the commandments) to Isaac and Jacob, and they kept (them) and
were written down as Friends
4 of God and covenant partners
for ever. . .
