In 2 Chr
34:28 (// 1 Kgs 22:22) the Chronicler presented the prophecy of Huldah, the
prophetess regarding Josiah: “I will gather you to your ancestors and you shall
be gathered to your grave in peace, so that your eyes do not see all the
disaster that I am bringing on this place and its inhabitants.” True, Josiah
was not witness to all the disaster that the Lord brought on the people and the
land. However, the story of Josiah’s death in the war against Necho, king of
Egypt, in the Valley of Megiddo contradicts Huldah’s prophecy “you shall be
gathered to your grave in peace,” demonstrating clearly that the
prophecy was not fulfilled in its entirety. The Chronicler did not touch this
