Referring to an Egyptian Ruler by His General Title Only
The Chronicler omitted the Egyptian ruler’s
personal name from the earlier text, referring to him only his general title,
“king of Egypt”:
1. |
2 Kgs 23:33 |
ויאסרהו פרעה נכה ברבלה |
And Pharaoh Necho
confined him in Riblah. |
|
2 Chr 36:3 |
ויסירהו מלך מצרים |
And the king of Egypt deposed
him. |
2. |
2 Kgs 23:34 |
וימלך פרעה נכה את־אליקים |
And Pharaoh Necho
installed Eliakim as king. |
|
2 Chr 36:4 |
וימלך מלך־מצרים את־אליקים |
And the king of Egypt installed Eliakim
as king. |
