Simon S. Lee: Peter, James, and John were the "some" spoken of in Mark 9:1

In Mk 9:1, Jesus predicts that “some who are standing here will not taste death until they see the Kingdom of God coming with power.” It is clear that “some” in this story refers to the three disciples Peter, James, and John. In Mark, these three constitute an inner core of the already special group of the twelve for Jesus’ ministry. In Galatians 2:9, Paul even calls them the “three pillars of the Church.” (Simon S. Lee, Jesus’ Transfiguration and the Believers’ Transformation [Wissenschaftliche Untersuchungen Zum Neuen Testament 2.Reihe 265; Tübingen: Mohr Siebeck, 2009], 15)
