Lutheran Johann Gerhard (1582-1637) Appealing to θεοπνευστος in a Way Similar to Modern Protestant Apologists

  

. . . our adversaries themselves acknowledge a distinction between sacred Scripture, which is theopneustos [θεοπνευστος], “God-breathed,” and the writings of the Fathers, and that the latter are to be tested by the former as by a norm and rule.
