The Messiah Sits on the Throne
in the New Jerusalem:
The Final Judgment
38 Then countless peoples
and nations will be coming,
and countless tribes from every place and from every mountain.
They will be holding in their hands branches of palm trees and olive trees,
of cypresses and beautiful blossoms,
delightful flowers and sweet-smelling reeds.
They will be shouting and praising the great King of the ages,
All peoples and nations and kings and nobles will worship him,
and all flesh will worship and give praise at the gate of daughter Zion.
Furthermore, they will gather together in the light of his splendor.
He will set up the cherub of the
sanctuary of Mount Zion
and the throne of righteousness in the New Jerusalem.
The great Messiah, the Son of Man, will sit on it
and will judge the peoples in righteousness and the nations in uprightness.
he will hold (dominion) and will rule forever and ever,
and (from) generation to generation.
All the ends of the earth will worship him.
A mighty fire will be around Zion,
and fiery sparks will be burning around Jerusalem.
All peoples and nations will
gather together there,
all the just and righteous
and all who fear in the name of the mighty Lord. (Matthias Henze, “The Syriac Apocalypse
of Daniel: A New Translation and Introduction,” in Old Testament
Pseudepigrapha: More Noncanonical Scriptures, ed. James R. Davila and
Richard Bauckham, 2 vols. [Grand Rapids, Mich.: Eerdmans, 2025], 2:493-94;
Henze dates this text to the middle of the seventh century [ibid., 463])
