Αποδεικνύντες δε ώς έν
έπιτομή περί τής θειότητος Ίητου, κα! χρώμενοι τοϊς περί αύτού λόγοις προφητικοίς,
συναποδείκνυμεν θεοπνεύστους είναι τάς προφητευούσας περί αύτού Γραφάς, καί τά
καταγγέλλοντα τήν επιδημίαν αύτου γράμματα καί διδασκα- λίαν, μετά πάσης
δυνάμεως καί εξουσίας ειρημένα, καί διά τούτο τής άπό τών έθνων έκλογής κεκρατηκότα.
Λεκτέον δέ ότι τό των προφητικών λόγων ένθεον, καί τό πνευματικόν του Μωσέως
νόμου Ελαμψεν έπιδημήσαντος Ίησού. Έναργή γάρ παραδείγματα περί του
θεοπνεύστους είναι τάς παλαιάς Γραφάς πρό τής επιδημίας του Χριστού
παραστήσαι ού πάνυ δυνατύν ήν· άλλ' ή Ίησου επιδημία δυναμένους ύποπτεύεσθαι
τόν νόμον καί τούς προφήτας ώς ού θεΐα, είς τούμφανές ήγαγεν, ώς ούρανίω χάριτι
άναγε- γραμμένα. Ό δε μετ' επιμελείας και προσοχής εντυγχάνων τοίς προφητικοίς
λόγοις, παθών έξ αύτου του άναγινώσκειν ίχνος ένθουσιασμού, δι' ων πάσχει,
πεισθήσεται, ούκ άνθρώπων είναι συγγράμματα τούς πεπιστευμένους Θεού λόγους.
Καί τό ένυπάρχον δε φώς τω Μωσέως νόμω καλύμματι εναποκεκρυμμένον συνέλαμψε τη
Ίησου επιδημία, περιαιρεθέντος του καλύμματος, καί τών άγαθών κατά βραχύ είς
γνώσιν έρχομένων, ών σκιάν είχε το γράμμα. (PG 8:533B-544)
Having demonstrated, in summary, the divinity of
Jesus—and using the prophetic words concerning him—we jointly show that the
Scriptures which prophesy about him are divinely inspired, and that those
proclaiming his manifestation through writings and teachings, spoken with all
power and authority, have been firmly established by the election of the
nations. It must also be noted that the inherent content of the prophetic
words—and the spiritual element of Moses’ Law—was received by Jesus at his
manifestation. For clear examples of divine inspiration are found in the
ancient Scriptures which, prior to the manifestation of Christ, were not
fully capable of presenting such evidence; but the manifestation of Jesus
enabled one to perceive the Law and the Prophets as divine, having brought them
forth in a clear and unmistakable manner, as if they had been inscribed by
heavenly grace. And he who, with diligence and care, is moved by the prophetic
words—experiencing from them a trace of zeal for reading aloud (through which
he suffers)—will be convinced that the writings containing the words of God,
which have been entrusted to believers, are not of human origin. Moreover, the
latent light hidden in Moses’ Law, concealed under a covering, was gathered up
in the manifestation of Jesus—with that covering removed—and the good things
which quickly come to be known, of which the letter was but a mere shadow.
