Targum Jonathan to the Prophets (Aramaic text):

Targum Jonathan to the Prophets (English translation):

11. This is a copy of the letter which Jeremiah the prophet sent to the remnant of the elders of the Exile who were in Babylon. “If the nations among whom you are should say to you, Worship the idols, O house of Israel: thus you shall answer and thus shall you say to them: ‘The idols which you worship are idols in which there is no profit. They cannot bring down rain from heaven, and they cannot make fruits sprout forth from the earth. They and those who worship them shall perish from the earth, and shall be destroyed from under these heavens. (The Aramaic Bible: The Targum of Jeremiah [trans. Robert Hayward; The Aramaic Bible 12; Collegeville, Minn.: The Liturgical Press, 1990], Logos Bible Software edition)

The Targum is speaking if idols, per use of טָעוּ; here is how the term is defined:

טָעוּ      Aramaic: apostasy, idol (Glosses from the Qumran Manuscripts [Bellingham, Wash.: Logos Bible Software, 1999-2002], Logos Bible Software edition)

טעו noun טעותא

1 Palestinian,CPA error, idol (Comprehensive Aramaic Lexicon, Targum Lexicon [Hebrew Union College, 2004], Logos Bible Software edition)
