May 7, 1853. I took breakfast with a Mohammedian priest. He let me
read considerable in his Bible of very ancient date. I could not discover any
material difference between his religion and that of the Dutch Reformed or Congregationalists.

Walker does not elaborate
on the parallels, but my (educated) guess is due to the parallels between Islamic fatalism
(Al-qaḍāʾ wa l-qadar) and the varying theologies of predestination of
the Dutch Reformed and other groups.
