D&C 107:17, 69, 73, 76 speaks of literal descendants of Aaron. The following reminded me of these texts when I read it earlier today:
Today, there are about 240,000 “Levites” living in Israel and 200,000
in the United States so we would be wrong to imagine a Levite must be expected
to live in Israel either today or in antiquity. In antiquity, many in Samaria
claimed to be Levites and Cohens; and today the Samaritans proudly claim their
High Priest descends from Aaron. (James H. Charlesworth, “Levites on Cyprus–Not
Only in the Jerusalem Temple,” in Cyprus Within the Biblical World: Are
Borders Barriers?, ed. James H. Charlesworth and Jolyon G. R. Pruszinski
