The Lord said that “after many days” slaves would rise up against
their masters. Although some slaves did participate in the Civil War against
the South, the outcome of the war was not significantly affected by an uprising
of the slaves “against their masters” who were “marshaled and disciplined for
war.” (D&C 87:4) A possible partial fulfillment of this prophecy of
uprising slaves may have occurred in 1989-1192 when fifteen Communist slave
states overthrew their Soviet-imposed dictatorships and declared their freedom
from Communism.
The Lord predicted that the “remnants who are left on the land” will
become exceedingly angry and sorely vex the Gentiles. Wars and bloodsheds,
earthquakes, famine and plague will follow until “the inhabitants of the earth
be made to feel the wrath, and indignation, and chastening hand of an Almighty
God.” (D&C 87:5-6) There are many elements of these prophetic verses that
have not yet been fulfilled.
The Lord said that these judgments will come about to avenge the blood
of the Saints. (D&C 87:7) There is a strong implication that even as the
Saints had to cry unto the Lord in Missouri and Illinois to have their wrongs
avenged, there will be a future time when the Saints might find it necessary to
plead with the Lord to protect them from enemies that may yet arise. (Richard
