. . .the Judge’s assistants will also include his holy
people. Daniel says that “judgment” will be “given to the saints of the
most High” (Dan. 7:22). This will happen in a context where the “saints” are
persecuted on earth (vv. 21, 25) but will receive the kingdom *v. 27) to reign
with the “Son of man” (vv. 13-14). Jesus promised the apostles, “When the Son
of man shall sit in the throne of his glory, ye also shall sit upon twelve
thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel” (Matt. 19:28). Paul says, “The God
of peace shall bruise Satan under your feet shortly” (Rom. 16:20). Paul also
says, “Do ye not know that the saints shall judge the world? And if the world
shall be judged by you, are ye unworthy to judge the smallest matters?” (1 Cor.
6:2).
. . .
Christ’s people will share in Christ’s judging of the
world “with a word of iron” (Rev. 2:26-27), but Christ will do this merely by
speaking (19:15) and the saints will likely judge in the same manner. Christ’s people
will act at that time with flawless righteousness and wisdom, for they will be
glorified with Christ (1 John 3:2). (Joel R. Beeke and Paul M. Smalley, Reformed
Systematic Theology, 4 vols. [Wheaton, Ill.: Crossway, 2024], 4:1004, 1005)
