Caesarius of Arles (6th century): The "Woman" of Revelation 12:1 being the Church

(Rev. 12:1) “And a great sign appeared in heaven, a woman clothed with the sun, and the moon under her feet.” It is the Church which he sees here, having under her feet a part of herself, that is, hypocrites and bad Christians. “And on her head a crown of twelve stars.” One can see in these twelve stars, the Twelve Apostles. This woman clothed with the sun is the symbol of the resurrection, according to these words of the Gospel: “Then the righteous will shine as the sun in the kingdom of their Father. (Matt. 13:43) (Caesarius of Arles Commentary on Revelation: A Sixth Century Commentary on the Book of Revelation [trans. John Litteral; Litteral Truth Publishing, n.d.], 38)
