Note on Luke 22:41

22:41 A: About a stone’s throw.

Similar distance measurements are found in Gen 21:16: הרחק כמטחוי קשת = “at the distance of a bowshot”; LXX: ὡσεὶ τόξου βολήν. ‖ Babylonian Talmud Qiddušin 33A (in the mouth of Abbayye [† 338/39]): מְלֹא עֵינָיו = “filling of his eyes,” that is, as far as you can see. (Hermann L. Strack and Paul Billerbeck, A Commentary on the New Testament from the Talmud and Midrash, ed. Jacob N. Cerone, 4 vols. [trans. Andrew Bowden and Joseph Longarino; Bellingham, Wash.: Lexham Press, 2022], 2:302)

My friends in the USA can be pleased to know that it is not just Americans who take the “anything but the metric system” approach to measurements 😉
