“They shall bow down to you”—as vassals before their sovereign. For
this expression, see Ps 5:8; 138:2: “I bow toward (אשתחוה אל)
Your holy temple.” In both these latter verses, however, אל denotes direction—they shall bow in the direction of the Temple
rather than to the Temple itself. Thus it is very probable that אליך is a scribal error, influenced by the repetition of the letters
אל throughout the verse, and one should read
here לך, the preposition that most commonly
