Shalom Paul on Isaiah 45:14

“They shall bow down to you”—as vassals before their sovereign. For this expression, see Ps 5:8; 138:2: “I bow toward (אשתחוה אל) Your holy temple.” In both these latter verses, however, אל denotes direction—they shall bow in the direction of the Temple rather than to the Temple itself. Thus it is very probable that אליך is a scribal error, influenced by the repetition of the letters אל throughout the verse, and one should read here לך, the preposition that most commonly follows the verb השתחוה. (Shalom M. Paul, Isaiah 40–66: Translation and Commentary, Eerdmans Critical Commentary [Grand Rapids, Mich.: Eerdmans, 2012], 265-66, emphasis in bold added)
