למען ירשו.
הפסוק כמו הפוך למען ירשו אשר נקרא שמי עליהם את שארית אדום ר"ל אותם שנקרא שמי
עליהם את אדום וטעם למען אמר אבנה אותה כימי עולם למען ירשו את אויביהם שכניהם והם
אדום ופלשתים ומואב ועמון וזהו שאמר וכל הגוים וזהו שאמר כימי עולם כי דוד מלך ישראל
שם באדום נציבים וכן השאר כולם הכניעם לפניו וכן יהיה לעתיד שירשו ישראל את הגוים ההם
כמו שאמר בנבואת עובדיה וירשו הנגב את הר עשו וכן אמר בנבואת ישעיה אדום ומואב משלוח
ידם ומה שאמר את שארית אדום ועובדיה אמר ולא יהיה שריד לבית עשו כן יהיה כי עם עשו
לא יהיה להם שריד כי כולם יכלו לימות המשיח אבל את ארצם יירשו ישראל ולא כולה אלא שארית
מה שלא יהיה ממנה חרבן עולם כי קצתה יהיה חרבן עולם לאות לדורות על שהרעו לישראל והם
או אחיהם וקצתה ירשו אותה ישראל וישבו בה:
Radak on Amos 9:12:1
“‘So that they may possess’ — the verse is, as it were,
inverted. Its meaning is: so that Israel may possess those upon whom My name is
called, namely the remnant of Edom — that is, those upon whom My name is called
among Edom. And the reason for ‘so that’ is: ‘I will rebuild it as in days of
old, so that they may inherit their enemies, their neighbors, namely Edom,
Philistia, Moab, and Ammon.’ This is what is meant by ‘and all the nations.’
And this is what is meant by ‘as in days of old,’ for King David set governors
over Edom, and likewise he humbled all the rest before him. So too it will be
in the future: Israel will inherit those nations, as it says in the prophecy of
Obadiah, ‘And the south shall possess Mount Esau,’ and likewise in the prophecy
of Isaiah, ‘Edom and Moab shall be the stretch of their hand.’
And as for what it says, ‘the remnant of Edom,’ whereas
Obadiah said, ‘there shall be no survivor to the house of Esau,’ this will
indeed be so, for the people of Esau will have no survivor, since all of them
will perish in the days of the Messiah; but Israel will inherit their land,
though not all of it, only the remnant of it, where there will not be a
permanent ruin, for part of it will remain a perpetual desolation as a sign for
future generations that they did evil to Israel — they and their brothers — and
part of it Israel will inherit and dwell in.”
