Former Latter-day Saint Bill Young has a video demonstrating that he has never read Ethan Smith's View of the Hebrews. He seems to think that, as the Times and Seasons for June 1, 1842, quotes Josiah Priest’s American Antiquities that contains excerpts from the book, it “proves” Joseph Smith read View the Hebrews (post-1830 I will add . . . ).
The video was lousy,
but it is a good excuse to plug two great resource that a friend researched/wrote:
The
Book of Mormon and View of the Hebrews (click
here for the Primary Sources)
B. H. Roberts’s
Testimony (click here
for the Primary Sources)
There is no
meaningful evidence Joseph Smith read View of the Hebrews pre-1830 (or
even post-1830) and “parallelomania” sums up the relationship between this
volume and the Book of Mormon. It also shows that Bill Young has never read any
LDS apologetic/scholarly materials on these and other issues.
