Thomas D. Cottle on the Present Role of Adam in Latter-day Saint Theology (cf. D&C 78)

When the keys of Moses, Elias, and Elijah were delivered to Joseph Smith and Oliver Cowdery in the Kirtland Temple, we know that it was under the authority of Adam. [61] It is also likely that he had a major role when the Savior organized the missionary efforts in the spirit world preceding His resurrection. Adam would have been involved when the authority, the ordinances, the vestments, the presentation, and all temple knowledge were revealed to Joseph Smith. Because of a strict dedication to their posterity, Adam and Eve now aid Elijah with his spiritual organization—the dead speaking softly to the living—an organization that Parly P. Pratt discussed when he dedicated the northwest cornerstone of the Salt Lake Temple. (Thomas D. Cottle, Adam-ondi-Ahman: A Legacy of Adam and Eve [Portland: Insight, 2025], 77)
