Joseph Charles Bentley, a member of the Juarez Stake, Mexico, recorded Joseph F. Smith teaching’s concerning “daughters of perdition” and related issues on November 10, 1900:
Prest Smith said he wanted to tell the People a Secret,
that it may be a Secret to the people at large, But it was not a secret to him,
as he had it shown to him, Just as Plainly in Relation to the Devil, as he had
that Jesus was the Christ.
I have heard it said and very strangely too, that there
was women in Hell and that there was she Devils. No I want to say to you that
there never will be a woman Devil. Women may be held in suspence, and have to
Pay the Penility of her wrong Doing, But she can never become a Devil there is
no such thing as a She Devil. they may act very Devilish while here but not one
will be a consigned to Perdission who have not Received the Priesthood or Had
the Opertunity to. you may have herd of Sons of Perdission, But no one Ever
heard of a Daughter of Perdission. In the Begining our mother Eve was deceived,
but not so with the man. He sined knowingly and men are made the Responscible
Party (Joseph
Charles Bentley historical notes, MS 1499, Church History Library, spelling
in original retained)
