Joseph Charles Bentley, a member of the Juarez Stake, Mexico, recorded the following condemnation of “round dancing” by Anthony W. Ivins:
October 6th 1907 A. W. Ivins was called to the Apostleship
in a Priesthood meeting Elmer Johnson asked a question about Round Dancing that
some had Reported that Prest Ivins had Said he had no objections to Round
Dancing.
Brother Ivins Said no one had Ever heard him say any such
a thing. Said he was oposed to lowering the standard the standard thus far
maintained in this Stake in the Church were Round dances was not Indulged in,
yet he knew that the Councils of the 1st Presidency and Apostles and Presidency
of this Stake is to Refrain from Round dancing. (Joseph
