He said, “Glorify me now, Father,
with the glory I had with you before the world was.” The divinity was forever almighty
with the Father before the world was, and the humanity was not before he
received it from the virgin Mary; but nevertheless the humanity was always
predestined in the divine plan before the foundation of the world, as the
apostle Paul said: he who was predestined the Son of God in power, that
is, “he who is the predestined Son of God.” By this predestination the humanity
was glorified with the Father before the world was. The hour had come when
Christ, living at the right hand of his Father, had the glory which he had with
him at the predestination of his humanity. Similarly, the same apostle Paul
said that we were predestined, writing: Those whom he predestined, he also
called, that is, “Those whom he predestined, he also called to him, and
those whom he called to him he justified, and those whom he justified, he
glorified.” Again, the same said, “Just as he chose us in Christ before the
foundation of the world.” (Aelfric, “Wednesday in Rogation Week,” The Old
