you shall not show splendor.
The wording of the Hebrew is a little difficult. It might seem to say, “I will
give you (wenatati) splendor,” which does not make much sense. But the
verb here could also be an archaic form of the second-person feminine singular,
which is how it is understood in this translation, and the “not” of “you shall
not be settled” could carry over to this verb that immediately follows. (Robert
Alter, The Hebrew Bible, 3 vols. [New York: W. W. Norton & Company,
2019], 2:1130)
