[After quoting Abraham 3:23;
4:1]:
So many of the Christian Sects believe that God made the
earth and the heavens out of nothing that it seems good to quote a passage from
our works that teaches that God made, formed, and organized the earth from
existing materials of other earths. This same truth is substantiated by the
passage in Wisdom of Solomon 11:17:
“For thy Almighty hand that made the world of matter
without form.” Or as Isaiah 15:18, American Standard Version has: “The God that
formed the earth and made it that established it and created it not a waste,
that formed it to be inhabited.”
The L. D. S. do not go beyond bounds when they proclaim
that all the immediate worlds were created primarily for a fit abode for God’s spiritual
offspring. (Arch S. Reynolds, The Book of Abraham Brought Forth By Divine
Means [2d ed.; Springville, Utah: Arch S. Reynolds, 1954], 5)
The first edition of the book came out in 1951, thus the title of this blog post.
